(This message was added in version 6.7.0.) in /var/www/beyondgender.space/wp-includes/functions.php on line 6114Beyond Gender was formed (or rather, co-gestated) in 2018 by a group of researchers, activists and practitioners who felt that so many powerful and challenging queer science fiction texts were being ignored or forgotten by sf scholarship.
This group continues to grow: it now comprises sixteen members who see sf as a means of imagining and embodying new worlds and ways of being.
Beyond Gender operates as an anarchic collective built on decentralised decision-making, shared labour, and collective care.
In our work, we endeavour to approach texts of many different kinds through a process we have called Collective Close Reading. CCR is our way of bringing together our different disciplines, fields of expertise and knowledge of being in the world in our collective reading practice. We seek to analyse the texts we read but also to imagine alongside them, and braid them together in new, startling combinations.
In the future, we want Beyond Gender to grow wider and deeper, learning along with us and becoming something strange and new. As Octavia Butler wrote: 'All that we touch, we change. And that we change, changes us.'
You are reading version 1 of 4 of this text, but the next time this page loads, even these versions will change. The members of Beyond Gender each contributed sentences (highlighted in yellow), which are arranged together randomly in endless combinations to create a text which belongs to all of us, but is owned by none of us.
